Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things

Seit über 30 Jahren ist Hella Jongerius eine der prägendsten Persönlichkeiten des zeitgenössischen Designs. Ihre wegweisenden Arbeiten reichen von Textilien und Keramik über Möbel und Lampen bis hin zu skulpturalen Werken. Mit ihrem forschungsbasierten Gestaltungsansatz wurde Jongerius zum Vorbild für eine ganze Generation junger DesignerInnen. Die Ausstellung ist die erste Retrospektive über das Gesamtwerk der niederländischen Designerin, die unter anderem mit Maharam, KLM, Camper und Vitra zusammenarbeitete. Das Archiv ihres Designstudios JongeriusLab ist seit 2024 im Vitra Design Museum beheimatet. Die darin enthaltenen Objekte und Dokumente geben Einblicke in Jongerius‘ Arbeitsweise, ihr vielschichtiges Denken, ihre Leidenschaft für handwerkliche Prozesse und ihre intensive Auseinandersetzung mit Materialität und der Symbolik der Dinge. Dabei geht die Leidenschaft für Handwerk und Farbe stets mit einem klaren Bewusstsein für das große Ganze einher. Der Katalog zur Ausstellung umfasst auch eine Dokumentation des Jongerius-Archivs am Vitra Design Museum.

The Crafts and Trades of Fashion

In December 2025, the Palais Galliera is launching a series of exhibitions devoted to the skills and crafts involved in Parisian fashions. The three successive exhibitions will explore the specialised jobs and techniques in the fashion industry from different angles, showcasing items from the museum’s stunning collections and offering a fresh perspective on the history of fashion from the 18th century to the present day.
This first exhibition is devoted to the decorative crafts used to embellish and decorate garments and accessories: weaving, printing, embroidering, lacemaking and artificial flowers. The theme chosen to explore these techniques is the flower, a motif which has featured prominently in textile art and fashion since the 18th century. The many variations on the theme reveal the interplay of textures, the treatment of colours and volumes and details inspired by the changing seasons. From the brocade fabric of an 18th century waistcoat to the laser prints of a Balenciaga ensemble; a piece of Chantilly lacework to Gabrielle Chanel’s famous camellia, the exhibition highlights the wide variety of techniques involved, while at the same time exploring their symbolism and applications.
With over 350 pieces (garments, accessories, photographs, graphic art, samples, tools, etc.), the exhibition features creations from haute couture houses as well as pieces by young designers, some of which have been made especially for the exhibition. Textile samples and tables equipped with magnifying glasses have been provided in order for the public to examine the pieces and, by studying them, to appreciate the complexity of the craftsmanship involved in each design. It is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the very special skills and know-how of those who work in the fashion industry.
The Palais Galliera is also paying tribute to the people behind these skills, who are often forgotten or lesser known by the prestigious name of a couturier. Whether they are traditional Maisons such as Lesage or Hurel, or newer, contemporary players like Baqué Molinié or Aurélia Leblanc, the exhibition reviews these often unsung craftspeople of fashion: the textile designers, embroiderers, feather workers, and floral makers, who have made Paris the cosmopolitan capital and prime location for their exceptional skills, which they maintain in a constant state of innovation and renewal.

Many Shades of Grès - Mode wird Kunst

Aufsehenerregende Mode von einer der wichtigsten Wegbereiterinnen der Haute Couture im 20. Jahrhundert sowie davon inspirierte Outfits nach studentischen Entwürfen – das Kunstgewerbemuseum (KGM) präsentiert erstmals im deutschsprachigen Raum das faszinierende Werk der französischen Modedesignerin Madame Grès (1903–1993).
Im Mittelpunkt steht die 25 Modelle umfassende Grès-Kollektion des KGM und damit eine der größten außerhalb von Paris, wo Grès zeitlebens tätig war. Unter Mitwirkung des Fachbereichs „School of Culture and Design“ der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin beleuchtet die Ausstellung den Kosmos der außergewöhnlichen Couturière aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven.
In neun Sektionen werden um die 150 unterschiedlichste Exponate gezeigt, die sich als Querverweise auf die 25 Modelle von Madame Grès lesen lassen, die buchstäblich im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung stehen. Es werden unter anderem Kleidungsstücke auf Büsten und Figurinen, Accessoires, Grafiken, Zeichnungen, Fotografien, Skulpturen, Textilobjekte sowie Multi-Media-Installationen (Filme, Projektionen) gezeigt. Sie werden ergänzt um studentische Positionen sowie kontextualisierende Werke – darunter Plastiken, Gemälde, Fotografien, Grafiken, Filme und virtuelle Elemente.

Look ! 40 ans de mode au musée

Le musée des Arts décoratifs célèbre le 40e anniversaire de la création du musée des Arts de la Mode en ses murs à travers 40 silhouettes iconiques.
L’exposition majeure « Look ! 40 ans de mode au musée » révèle les savoir-faire et les gestes de la mode, qui, des ateliers de couture aux coulisses du musée, transforment le vêtement en œuvre d’art. L’exposition invite le visiteur à suivre les deux vies du vêtement, avant et après son entrée dans les collections. Du croquis initial au défilé en passant par la photographie de mode, des réserves du musée à l’exposition, elle dévoile les étapes de la création, de la conservation et de la restauration qui font vivre ce patrimoine exceptionnel.
Le public peut ainsi découvrir la beauté des œuvres et des objets qui participent à l’invention d’une pièce de mode : dessins, échantillons de broderie, patrons, dépôts de modèles… Sublimé par la photographie, porté par des mannequins à la célébrité croissante, le vêtement devient l’acteur de défilés désormais conçus comme de véritables performances artistiques.

Die beiden Münchner Modeschöpfer Johnny Talbot und Adrian Runhof gehören zu den wenigen deutschen Designern, die mit ihren Kreationen mehr als zwei Dutzend Male auf der Pariser Fashion Week präsent waren. Gefeiert vor den Augen der Weltpresse machten ihre 25 Shows deutlich, wofür ihre beeindruckenden Entwürfe stehen: Opulente Eleganz, handwerkliche Präzision und die Kunst, besondere Momente sichtbar zu machen.

The Antwerp Six

Im Jahr 2026 feiert das MoMu den 40. Jahrestag des internationalen Durchbruchs der Antwerp Six. Zum ersten Mal widmet sich eine große Ausstellung diesen sechs ikonischen Modedesigner*innen.
Die Ausstellung beleuchtet den einzigartigen Weg, der diese sechs außergewöhnlichen Talente verbindet. Alles begann mit ihrem Studium an der Modeabteilung der Königlichen Akademie der Schönen Künste in Antwerpen und mündete in sechs einflussreiche Einzelkarrieren. 1986 präsentierten Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene und Marina Yee ihre Kollektionen auf der British Designer Show in London – ein Moment, der Antwerpen auf die globale Modekarte setzte. Ihre unverwechselbare Handschrift prägt die internationale Modewelt bis heute.

WORN: the life within clothes

Worn showcases the breadth of Manchester City Galleries’ fashion and dress collection through a ‘slow fashion’ lens with a focus on the lifecycle of clothing. The exhibition highlights pieces that have been mended, altered, customised and recycled, revealing evidence of wear and examining the longevity, preservation and consumption of clothing and the notion of value through human connection, history, memory and storytelling.
Drawing on the strength and scope of the collection, the exhibition includes over 40 objects including fine art, textiles, fashion, and domestic, home-made everyday dress and accessories, spanning several centuries, from 18th century to our most recent contemporary acquisition. Many of the garments have been donated to the collection over 100-year period and are displayed for the first time, bringing to light patterns of gallery and museum collecting and ideas around preservation and representation.
Presented as a series of ‘material stories’ around paisley, cotton, silk and patchwork, the displays draw out some of the many global connections of textiles and dress linking to consumption, colonial trade and export, appropriation and re-use. Featuring clothing from the Make Do and Mend period of the 2nd World War, some of the exhibition highlights include utility and workwear and examples of customised, homemade clothing exploring resourceful, creative approaches to fashion and self-expression. The displays present clothing imbued with memories, narratives, stories of identity and physical impressions of wear that echo the passage of time.
Worn also reflects the breadth and scope of Manchester City Galleries dress collection, curated as a repository for histories and memories of past lives reflected though surviving clothing and viewed thought the lens of the present. Fashion is framed as a shifting and responsive medium, eminently accessible and connective.

Anish Kapoor

One of the most influential artists of our time, Anish Kapoor returns to the Hayward Gallery, where he staged his first major UK survey almost 30 years ago.
Kapoor’s exhibition fills the entire gallery building with a series of immersive works, many of which press against the gallery walls and floors or descend from the ceiling to create an uncanny sensation of awe and wonder.
The exhibition features works from many of Kapoor’s most iconic series: flawless steel mirror sculptures that warp, distort and disorient; mysterious objects coated in Vantablack – the blackest known substance in the world – that mystify us with their extraordinary light-absorbing properties; and seemingly depthless voids opening within the gallery, drawing us in with a thrilling sense of vertigo.
The exhibition also introduces dramatic recent works: visceral paintings and sculptures that confront us with the fragility of human existence.
In addition, the artist presents several new works that appear to turn the world inside out and upside down, including a pair of monumental installations in the artist’s signature red.
Part of our 75th anniversary celebrations, the exhibition is curated by Ralph Rugoff, marking his final show as Director of the Hayward Gallery after 20 years in the role.
Over his decades-long career, Kapoor has become known for ambitious, large-scale works such as the breathtaking Sky Mirror and Chicago’s Cloud Gate (known as The Bean).
